What kinds of file types do you accept at your die cut sticker printing?

     Vector graphics and bitmap images can both be used to design files for full bleed die-cut stickers, but the die-cut files must be in vector graphics format.

Vector Graphics File:

Vector graphics, utilizing mathematical formulas to describe images, differ from bitmap images (such as JPEG or PNG) by representing graphics through the combination of lines, points, curves, and other mathematical objects rather than a pixel array. Vector graphic files allow for lossless enlargement or reduction without distortion and offer the ability to edit colors, sizes, and shapes. In the printing field, handling vector graphic files is relatively straightforward and does not compromise image quality. However, vector graphics are not suitable for creating designs with complex colors and gradients.

Bitmap Formats:

A bitmap is a graphic form composed of pixels or image units (usually represented as points). Each pixel carries specific color information, and the entire image is formed by the orderly arrangement of these pixels. Bitmaps are also referred to as raster images because the image is segmented into regular grids, with each grid containing color information. Consequently, the precision of bitmap files depends on the size of DPI or PPI. Bitmaps are suitable for creating designs with depth and vibrant colors without restrictions on color and gradient. However, bitmap files are typically larger in size, making storage and transmission less convenient. Since bitmaps are image formats, their content cannot be modified, and adjustments to color and size are limited to minor tweaks, as any major alterations may lead to image distortion.

When preparing files for die-cut sticker printing, it’s essential to:

  1. Add a 3mm bleed to each side of the file as needed.
  2. Whether it’s a vector or bitmap file, be sure to convert fonts to curves or provide the required font files; otherwise, the font in the file may change. If there are inserted images in the file, embed them into the file; otherwise, the print shop may lose the images when opening the file.
  3. All print files need to be in CMYK or PANTONE SPOT format; RGB is only suitable for creating visual effects for display on computers and related electronic screens.
